DellaBadgeTag_2016

We started this contest in 2011 as a fun way for us to see the end result with our prom flowers. We enjoy making them so much and love seeing students pick up their flowers but hardly ever get to see these students all dolled up wearing said prom flowers!

I didn't even know if anyone would bother with entering the contest! Every year as I print the fliers for this I wonder if we'll get any contestants this year. But, year after year lots of students enter with tons of support from friends and family! Therefore I want to thank our contestants from this year and from years past for your support in Gillespie Florists by choosing us for your flower provider and for giving us the opportunity to see the end result of our work with your participation in our Prom King and Queen contest!

We had some serious competition this year! It was exciting to see all the positive comments and "likes" from friends and family of contestants. Prom goers only needed to post their picture on our Facebook Business Page or they could use #GFPROM2019 on Instagram or twitter wearing our flowers! We then asked our social media followers to "Like" their favorite picture or make a positive comment about it to determine the winner.

We tally all likes and comments from the original post from the contestant as well as the picture we post in the King & Queen album. We had several prom goers enter but there can be only one winner!

And The Winner Is...

Valerie Harrell! Valerie posted for her son and his friend Kayla! They won with a total of 159 likes and comments! Valerie's son and Kayla will each get a $25.00 gift card to Gillespie Florists and Kayla will be crowned with a tiara and flowers!

Screen Shot 2019-05-05 at 8.54.15 PM

Kayla was wearing our Gillespie's Special GFP7, a three white alstroemeria lily corsage with red leaves, red ribbon and silver bead sprays and her date was wearing a matching boutonniere!

IMG_20190503_122748582_edited-1

We offer to send our customers pictures of their flowers before they pick up as a free service! Not everyone wants a picture before hand but the Harrell's did and that give us a chance to give you an up close look at the winning flowers! I love that they used alstroemeria lily flowers for Prom because it's a beautiful flower that isn't commonly used for Prom which makes it a unique choice!

This years tally was more difficult than previous years because some of the original submissions had privacy setting changes and were no longer visible for us to count likes/comments. We apologize if we missed some votes and remember for next year to keep your entry a public post until after the winner is announced!

Thanks to everyone who entered our Prom King & Queen Contest this year! We LOVE seeing everyone's pictures and hope to see you next year for #GFPROM2020!!

Buying Prom Flowers: The Four C's

Posted by Tue, Mar 27, 2018 @ 10:23 AM

Raw_badgetag-01-1.pngWe keep tabs on the latest and greatest ideas with prom flowers and we've noticed a consistent trend...ANYTHING goes! For real, there aren't set-in-stone guidelines for the ultimate prom corsage and/or boutonniere. Know why? Just like every wedding dress, every prom ensemble is different. Prom flowers reflect your personal style through complementing the outfit. Now that we've come to terms with the rules of prom flower styling (there aren't any) here are some things to consider when choosing your prom flowers.

purplepromcorsage.jpg

1. Clothing: What are You Wearing?

Dress? Suit and Tie? Oversized T-Shirt and Leggings? The style of the outfit will help you decide whether you're getting a wrist corsage (most popular), hand held (senior prom), special placement (wraparound, ring, shoe, hair, etc) or boutonniere. If you're buying prom flowers for your date and unsure of the best option, a wrist corsage is the most popular for dresses. Another option is bring your date with you to the florist. Pick out flowers and color options together can be fun. Just think of it as a mini-date for the big day! Not ready to come in just yet? Visit our prom collection online to get ideas before visiting our store to find the perfect prom flower match for your style!

promaccessories-1.jpg

2. Colors: Choose Your Colors.

Outfit style. Check. Onto matching colors of the outfit to the corsage and boutonniere! We have an awesome prom accessory setup for matching outfit colors. Our staff can guide you through all the ribbons, rhinestone and bead accents, bracelets, etc for your color combination. Is it absolutely necessary to match the color of the outfit? As mentioned in the beginning, anything goes. Match the dress, find complimentary colors or go neutral! Neutral colors such as pale peach, cream and beige look great with everything and often lend to a softer, vintage vibe. Regardless of the color direction you're going, it is highly suggested to bring in the outfit for best matching purposes. If it's not possible to bring in the prom ensemble that's ok! Take a picture of the outfit in good lighting and bring it in. We can take it from there!

galassia.jpg

3. Cost: Know your budget.

What do prom flowers cost? Corsage pricing begins at $18.95 and our boutonnieres start at $5.95. There are a wide variety of flowers and colors to choose from. Keep costs down with selecting flowers such as carnations, daisies, alstroemeria or do a combination of those flowers with sweetheart roses! More expensive corsages will use sweetheart roses, orchids, upgrades on standard wristlets, boutonniere holders and specialty corsages. Visit our prom collection online for more ideas on pricing, flowers and upgrades you can make to your corsages including making them glow! Thanks to Galassia Fluorescence method, we can take our signature corsages and turn it into glowing crown of glory for your prom ensemble. Learn more about Galassia Fluorescence

It's amazing what you can do with a variety of flowers! Tight budget or skies the limit, we can make the perfect prom corsage for prom night on any budget!

4. Call: Call, Come In and Order from Us!

We've covered the outfit, colors and cost. All that is left to do is call, come in and order from Gillespie Florists! Our extensive online prom collection can help inspire you with flowers, style, ideas etc. Any questions? Don't hesitate to call or visit us and speak with our experienced staff on how to get the ball rolling on flowers for prom night! Prom Corsages for a Princess: Part One

Posted by Sat, May 09, 2015 @ 08:48 AM

kellybadgetag-01-3

Once upon a time...in a land far, far, away by way of Danville, IN there lived a girl who LOVED Disney characters, especially a particular red-headed mermaid. Alas, back in those days of yore, Princess- inspired Prom dresses were scarce, as was the internet, and the girl lacking ample time to shop selected a short, puffy, navy dress and enjoyed the prom with her friends.  The End.

Oh but it's not the end! It's only the beginning as Princess-Inspired Prom dresses have been quite the trend as of late. After viewing a superfluous amounts of fairy godmother turned fashion designer threads I decided to select a few of my favorite Disney ladies and pair a corsage with their perfect prom dress. Let us start with the frantic cleaning girl who started it all.

promprincess_Cinderella1. Cinderella

The one who started it all. A fairy tale come true complete with a mouse-driven pumpkin carriage and famous glass slipper which changed a girl's story into a "Happily Ever After". The story is timeless, the dress is classic ball gown style with off the shoulder bodice trimmed with tulle ruffles and butterfly accents. The two-tone tulle skirt has sparkling sequins throughout to create extra enchantment. It was difficult to choose the perfect corsage for this leading lady but it seemed fitting to use our "Frosted Butterfly" which our designers created this season. Fascinating how it seems this corsage was made for this dress...or is it? Perhaps it was meant to be.

promprincess_Belle2. Belle:

While we're on the subject of ball gowns, dancing, and dreamy princes...well wait, not in this case. The Beast wasn't easy on the eyes at first because he behaved like a monster. But remember when Mrs. Potts voiced by Angela Lansbury starts belting out "Beauty and the Beast"? By that time the hairy beast was acting more like a prince and he looked quite charming in his blue jacket.

Yellow ball gowns are a challenging color so this Beauty inspired piece has been upgraded to a warmer gold. The structured bodice with ruching and the gathered skirt is an elegant modern twist on Belle's original dress. I matched the Three Sweet Heart Rose corsage with the roses in a soft, sweet peach. The pearl bracelet sports shimmery gold leaves and sheer gold ribbons and accent beading. "Tale as old as time" with updated colors for a glamorous finish.

promprincess_Mulan 3. Mulan:

"Hold the phone! Mulan isn't a princess!" You're right, she's not however I love her character. She is a fierce, unstoppable woman warrior. What a role model! Oddly enough, there weren't many dresses which I felt truly depicted Mulan's character so I went ahead and chose a stunning long one shoulder red dress with delicate beaded accents. Simple and refined with an edge. The "Leilani" corsage reflects the edginess of the dress with unique sparkling red accents, dendrobium orchids, silver leaves, and red feathers. Red is the key to this bold arrangement. A perfect fit for Mulan.

My Top 5 Prom Flower Corsages 2014

Posted by Fri, May 30, 2014 @ 11:00 AM

Robyn SmithAs we come to a close on the 2014 prom season here at Gillespie Florists, my second prom season with the shop, I have lost track of how many times I have been asked what my favorite corsages are. The shop has several very creative floral designers that create our amazing corsages so it makes it very hard to pick just one favorite. I have spent a lot of time dealing with our prom items this year and I finally have it narrowed down to my top five favorite corsages for this season.

Pink Curls Prom flowers

Pink Curls

This corsage is great for someone looking for something different. Black glitter leaves, pink beads, pink wired swirl sprays, black and silver wire, topped with aspidistra leaf ribbon and hot pink sweetheart roses make this a very uniquely designed corsage. To make it even better we could put this on any one of our keepsake bracelets!

Dreaming Blue Prom corsage

Dreaming Blue

This mixture of creams and blues makes for a very elegant but fun corsage. The beautiful cream and blue lace ribbon on top of black leaves and beads, topped with cream colored sweetheart roses and then accented with blue delphinium and blue faux rhinestone daisies is perfect for a classy but fun look.

Fire Island Flex Wrap Prom flowers

Fire Island

Decided to go with a brighter colored dress and now you are worried about matching orange flowers to the color of your dress? Don’t you worry, we have you covered. This corsage is unique with the use of the orange flex wrap covered wires which gives a new texture and look on top of black leaves. Add a few stunning orange sweetheart roses and there you have it, a perfect match for your bright orange dress!

Purple Pixie Prom CorsagePurple Pixie

Another new style for the 2014 Prom season! These lavender sweetheart roses are so pretty nestled in the purple flash ribbon with a splash of white wax flower filler. Add some purple faux rhinestone daisies and the versatile aspidistra leaf ribbon and you have the perfect mixture to accent that beautiful purple dress for your prom night.

Glowing fluorescence prom flowers

Glimmer

Want your corsage to be noticed by all on the dance floor as you dance the night away? Glimmer would be the way to go! This knock out corsage comes on a custom designed Glassia florescence wristlet that is battery powered and ready to go with its very own ultraviolet lights. White sweetheart roses, bright pink and brilliant white sheer ribbons, silver beads and silver dot tulle sprayed with the Glassia florescence formula are designed onto the custom wristlet. Flip the switch, hit the dance floor and amaze everyone with your out of this world corsage! Afraid that the glow won’t last all night, don’t you worry because we send you home with your very own, compact spray bottle of the Glassia florescence formula that will fit perfectly into your purse or date’s pocket! Give your corsage a quick spray and glow your night away!

If you like the style of one of our corsages but the colors won’t match your dress, don’t you worry we have you covered, all you have to do is ask about our color options!

Want to fancy up any corsage you see on our website??? Check out of huge selection of keepsake bracelets that will leave you with something special to remember your night!
