Flowers! Just Because...

Posted by Sat, Aug 29, 2020 @ 02:15 PM

kprofile_Badge-01-01Pop Quiz!  When is the best time to give and receive flowers?
Birthdays? Anniversaries?
Congratulations?

The best time, in fact, is any time.
Why? Because. Just Because.

rosebouquet

Because "I'm thinking of you; you're fantastic; feeling lucky to have you in my life; It's Monday; It's a day of the week ending in "day"; dinner last night was amazing; can't wait to hang out with you this weekend; you've had a hard day, a frustrating day, the best day ever, the most exciting day, or maybe just an ordinary day; there were these flowers and I knew they needed to be in your hands; I love making you smile; the kids decided your favorite color today was the lavender in these lilacs...the list goes on and on and on!

plushbouquet

Get where we're going with this?  If you're not convinced yet, here's my personal testimony. I love getting flowers. Birthdays, anniversaries, etc, name the event and I will super appreciate having gorgeous blooms to celebrate the occasion. But what if there is no occasion and it's just another day? I'm just going about my day and I turn around and there are flowers being given to me. For no other reason than "just because" someone was thinking of me. I didn't do anything special. Didn't complete a 5k or win an award for "Mom of the Year".

It's "just because" I'm me. It's a thoughtful gesture. An act of kindness. An unexpected gift which always makes my day brighter and adds extra smile wrinkles to my face. Which is good. We all need more smiles.

sunflowerbouquet

"Random flowers! What's that going to cost me, an arm and a leg?" you ask? Few stems of daisies or maybe some alstroemeria and we're set!  For the price of a grande fancy coffee which may last a couple of hours; there could be a container of refreshing floral delight for days. But don't take it from me! Go out there and ask your friends! It's a great topic of discussion and the answers may be surprising when you start asking "Why?". I did and had a broad range of responses but the top one with a strong lead was Just Because.

Flowers are appreciated all the time; for many occasions. But it doesn't mean you have to wait for something special to share some love through the beauty of flowers. So get out there, pick up a sunshine bouquet; a single rose; a basket overflowing with daisies or whatever suits your fancy and make TODAY a special occasion. Just because.

Fall Wedding Flowers Spotlight: Kelli and Zachary

Posted by Fri, Oct 11, 2019 @ 04:02 PM

Raw_badgetag-01Fall Wedding Season is well underway and we've recently had one of our own staff as a customer for her special day! Not only did she use our services she also did all the floral processing (part of her day job) herself!

We're taking an up close look at how Kelli's wedding flowers featuring sunflowers turned out for her and Zachary's Brown County wedding .

Kelli and Zachary's feature flower for their special day is the sunflower! With bold golden colors and hardy nature they blend in harmony with the colors of autumn. Did you know sunflowers also symbolize loyalty, adoration and faith? The meaning and nature of sunflowers make it a popular option for the season and as you can see it's a perfect choice!

bridalbouquet-1

Sunflowers may take the main stage however spray roses, limonium, seeded eucalyptus and statice play an important role in the design. These tried and true accessories of wedding florals add depth and texture to create visually stunning bouquet. Colors of lavender, orange and cream complement bold golden yellow without becoming overwhelmed. The final effect is a celebration of the season and this special moment!

masonjarmagic

The celebration continues with mason jar magic happening with the centerpieces! Three large sunflowers plus a sprig of limonium plus a steady hand arranging them in a mason jar equals a cozy bouquet! We love the simplicity and visual impact of these table pieces.

grandmother

Speaking of visual impact, we won't forget to mention the sweet color combinations on the corsages and boutonnieres. Lovely lavender spray roses, yellow spray roses and violet statice highlight the complementary colors from the bridal bouquet. The final product is a fall themed flowers followed through from start to finish!

Have about thirty more seconds? Make sure to check out our video with more photos of these wedding flowers.

Have another minute or two? View our online wedding collection for inspiration!

Meet Our Prom King & Queen 2019 #GFPROM2019

Posted by Mon, May 20, 2019 @ 09:30 AM

DellaBadgeTag_2016

We started this contest in 2011 as a fun way for us to see the end result with our prom flowers. We enjoy making them so much and love seeing students pick up their flowers but hardly ever get to see these students all dolled up wearing said prom flowers!

I didn't even know if anyone would bother with entering the contest! Every year as I print the fliers for this I wonder if we'll get any contestants this year. But, year after year lots of students enter with tons of support from friends and family! Therefore I want to thank our contestants from this year and from years past for your support in Gillespie Florists by choosing us for your flower provider and for giving us the opportunity to see the end result of our work with your participation in our Prom King and Queen contest!

We had some serious competition this year! It was exciting to see all the positive comments and "likes" from friends and family of contestants. Prom goers only needed to post their picture on our Facebook Business Page or they could use #GFPROM2019 on Instagram or twitter wearing our flowers! We then asked our social media followers to "Like" their favorite picture or make a positive comment about it to determine the winner.

We tally all likes and comments from the original post from the contestant as well as the picture we post in the King & Queen album. We had several prom goers enter but there can be only one winner!

And The Winner Is...

Valerie Harrell! Valerie posted for her son and his friend Kayla! They won with a total of 159 likes and comments! Valerie's son and Kayla will each get a $25.00 gift card to Gillespie Florists and Kayla will be crowned with a tiara and flowers!

Screen Shot 2019-05-05 at 8.54.15 PM

Kayla was wearing our Gillespie's Special GFP7, a three white alstroemeria lily corsage with red leaves, red ribbon and silver bead sprays and her date was wearing a matching boutonniere!

IMG_20190503_122748582_edited-1

We offer to send our customers pictures of their flowers before they pick up as a free service! Not everyone wants a picture before hand but the Harrell's did and that give us a chance to give you an up close look at the winning flowers! I love that they used alstroemeria lily flowers for Prom because it's a beautiful flower that isn't commonly used for Prom which makes it a unique choice!

This years tally was more difficult than previous years because some of the original submissions had privacy setting changes and were no longer visible for us to count likes/comments. We apologize if we missed some votes and remember for next year to keep your entry a public post until after the winner is announced!

Thanks to everyone who entered our Prom King & Queen Contest this year! We LOVE seeing everyone's pictures and hope to see you next year for #GFPROM2020!!

UPDATE!!! We are now in the second phase of the contest!

Exciting News! Pearl is getting ready to welcome a sister who will be hanging around with her at the store! She is an English bulldog puppy and will soon be with the Gillespie Florists Family! We have an album of pictures for this sweet pup on Facebook. Check out the pictures and add the best name you can think of in the comment section. On May 15th Della will choose the top two or three names.

After a night of deliberations and careful name selection we are ready to move onto voting.
May 16th through May 22nd we will ask you to vote for your favorite of the names selected.
The winning name will be announced on May 23rd! Click here to go to the poll and place your vote.
*Gillespie Florists reserves the right to choose a different name other than the one that won by popular vote*

If your name is selected to be in the final voting process you will be eligible to win a prize! Keep an eye on our posts and the photo album.

Good luck and thank you for helping us name our pup!

Holiday and Winter Bouquet Favorites!

Posted by Fri, Nov 30, 2018 @ 11:08 AM

Raw_badgetag-01-1The most wonderful time of the year means we have an abundance of winter and holiday themed bouquets for sending "Season's Greetings!" Lights shine brighter, our hearts are lighter and everything has a nice joyful sheen to it (except for fallen snow after a day of traffic...but let's not dwell on it right now!).  Here to get you in the mood for the holidays I am sharing the bouquets and centerpieces fit for any table, office and/or living space.
Tis the season!

 wintercardinal2

Winter Cardinal (18X02)
We are starting out the gate with something brand new from our designers. Maybe it's a favorite because I went to Ball State (Go CARDS!), maybe the colors OR MAYBE this says Indiana winter to me. There is so much to love about Winter Cardinal! Light blue carnations, delphinium, pine cones, fresh fragrant pine and a little cardinal nestled in a beautiful winter theme container. This arrangement brings back fond winter memories complete with bright red cardinals flitting to and fro.

tinseltwist

Tinsel Twist (16X05)
Now let's go for something a little more energetic and fun! Do you love candy cane colors? Baskets? Carnations and daisie in holiday colors in a basket? Then Tinsel Twist is for you! Lively red and white color flowers with refreshing greens topped with a boisterous ribbon all wrapped up in a basket. This bouquet says "Joy to the world and have the happiest of holidays!". I get psyched up just looking at it.

plumenchantment

Plum Enchantment (16X01)

Now that we are excited, let's take it down a notch with the peaceful warm glow of a golden glass hurricane surrounded by florals in colors of a sugar plum dreamland. Fragrant and fresh winter pine, pinecones, moon series carnations in shades of purple, purple statice, blue millimeter balls, a votive candle and a touch of silver glitter!

williamsburglantern3

Williamsburg Lantern (18X05)

A new pick which is becoming more popular are lanterns! They are everywhere but leave it to the fantastic designers at Gillespie Florists to put the perfect artfully arranged spin on this new classic. Adorned with glittering red leaves, apple and pinecone, natural pinecone, red and black plaid ribbon, ornament and LED light candle which will warm up any living space! I am sold on this keepsake and can't wait to see the warm candlelight softly illuminating my living room.

poinsettias4 (1)

Poinsettias
What kind of list would this be without one of our most traditional winter decor staples? Nothing says "Happy Holidays" like poinsettias! Red, white, pink and now available in shimmer blue, come by our store and pick on up, call us or order online! We have 6", 7", 8", 10" and even poinsettia topiaries in stock.  Want to send poinsettias to a loved one with pets? Check out this informative article about pets and poinsettias!
