10th & Raceway Roundabout Update: We’ve Got the Dirt! 🚧🌸

KSBADGE_25-02

If you’ve driven anywhere near our neck of the woods recently, you already know the area looks a bit like an obstacle course. With all the heavy machinery, orange barrels, and "Road Closed" signs right outside our doors at 10th Street and Raceway Road, it’s easy to wonder exactly what’s happening behind the barricades.

Well, we finally have the scoop from the town of Avon and the construction crew, and we wanted to share the latest update with our amazing community!

The Mystery Behind the Delay: The Plot Thickens!

Have you noticed things moving a little slower than expected out there? It turns out the construction crew ran into a bit of a surprise beneath the surface: a vintage, undocumented clay utility pipe! 🕵️‍♂️✨

Because it wasn't on any of the original maps, everything had to pause temporarily while the town drew up a brand-new relocation plan and waited for the official permits to get approved.

The good news? The paperwork is completely sorted, and the permit is officially in hand!

What’s the New Timeline?

With the permits approved, full-scale construction is ready to kick into high gear. In fact, if you've driven past lately, you might have already spotted an excavator on-site and some of the new utility pipe delivered! The rest of the heavy materials are scheduled to arrive on site on Monday, June 22nd.

While the town is aiming to wrap things up by the end of August, building a brand-new roundabout from scratch typically takes about 90 to 100 days of active work. To be realistic and safe, we are expecting the intersection to remain closed into late summer or early fall

WeOPENYes, We Are COMPLETELY Open! 🚘📦

We cannot emphasize this enough: Gillespie Florists is fully operational, fully stocked, and ready to welcome you! Don't let those intimidating "Road Closed" signs scare you away. Because you are visiting a business within the construction zone, you are legally classified as "Local Traffic." That means you have the absolute green light to drive right past the initial barricades (whether you are coming from 10th & Country Club or Raceway & Rockville) to reach our parking lot.

  • The Daily Shift: While our open driveway has remained at the 10th Street entrance since construction began in March, active digging zones could cause this to shift. If the crew does switch our main access point to the Raceway Road entrance, we will immediately post an update on our social media pages to let you know before you head out!
  • Pro-Tip: If you ever feel uncertain about the "path of the hour," just give us a quick call at 317-273-1100 or text us at 317-509-0668 before you head out, and we’ll give you real-time navigation instructions!

10th & Raceway Roundabout: Frequently Asked Questions

Posted by Sun, May 31, 2026 @ 02:59 PM

KSBADGE_25-02Construction at 10th & Raceway continues, and we know it can look a little intimidating from the road—but we promise, we are still here, open, and serving you with the same care and creativity as always. Here’s everything you need to know to find us with ease.

Are we still open during construction?

Yes! Gillespie Florists is fully open and operating as usual.
Our designers are in the shop creating fresh arrangements every day, and our delivery drivers are out on the road keeping celebrations, sympathies, and everyday moments on schedule.

IMG_8026-1The signs say “Road Closed.” Can I still get to you?

Yes, you can.

Those “Road Closed” signs are intended for thru-traffic—drivers trying to pass through the area to reach another destination. If you are coming to visit us, you are considered local traffic, which means you are allowed to drive past the barricades to reach our shop and parking lot.

If it feels uncertain the first time, you’re not alone—but you are in the right place.

Which entrance should I use today?

Access may shift depending on active construction zones and crew activity.

As of March 24, 2026:

  • OPEN: 10th Street Entrance (best accessed by heading west from Country Club Road)
  • CLOSED: Raceway Road Entrance

Please note: this can change quickly. If one route is blocked, the other is typically your best alternative.

IMG_8028-1Are your hours still the same?

Yes—our regular business hours have not changed.
You can always check our most current hours on our website or give us a quick call if you’re unsure.

Can I still get delivery instead of coming in?

Absolutely—and it’s a great option while construction is ongoing.

If you’d prefer to avoid the area altogether, we recommend placing your order online or by phone. Our delivery team is navigating the detours daily and knows the surrounding routes better than anyone.

Flowers will still get where they need to go—beautifully and on time.

How can I get the most up-to-date route information?

Construction shifts quickly, and we’re happy to help you navigate it in real time.

We’re always glad to help you get here with less stress and more ease.

blog.gillespieflorists.comhs-fshub28499file-13661246-jpgimagesdella-blog-badge-Gillespie Florists is Open!

You’ve probably seen the signs, the orange barrels, and the heavy machinery. The rumors are true: the intersection of 10th Street and Raceway Road is officially closed for the construction of a new roundabout! Work began on Monday, March 23, 2026.

While a new roundabout will make navigating our corner smoother in the future, we know that right now, "Road Closed" signs are the last thing you want to see when you're looking for flowers.

We are writing this post with one very clear and very important message for you:

WE ARE FULLY OPEN FOR BUSINESS!

That’s right! Barricades and all, Gillespie Florists is ready to fill your orders, help you browse, and make sure you have the perfect fresh flowers for any occasion.

Navigating to Us

Because we are located directly at the corner, our property can be accessed even when the main intersection is closed. As a customer, you are officially considered "Local Traffic," which means you are permitted to drive through the initial barricades (located at 10th & Country Club or Raceway & Rockville) to reach our parking lot.

We have two main entrances that we can swap between as construction moves:

  • From the East (10th Street): Travel West on 10th Street from Country Club Road to reach our Northeast entrance.
  • From the South (Raceway Road): Travel North on Raceway Road from Rockville Road to reach our Southwest entrance.

ENTRANCE

IMPORTANT ACCESS UPDATE:
As of today, Monday, March 23, 2026, our 10th Street entrance is OPEN. Construction crews have blocked the Raceway Road entrance at this time.

Please keep in mind that the crews need to work in different spots, and they have informed us that they will shift our accessible entrance between 10th and Raceway as needed throughout the project. The entrance that is open today may be closed tomorrow.

Pro-Tips for a Headache-Free Visit

We know that navigating around construction can be frustrating. We appreciate you making the extra effort to support our local business, and we want to make it as easy as possible:

  1. Check Before You Drive: The absolute best way to know which entrance is currently open is to reach out to us directly for a real-time update:
    • Call us: 317-273-1100
    • Text us: 317-509-0668
    • Email us: gillespieflorists@gmail.com
  2. We Deliver! Prefer to skip the construction and the navigation altogether? We offer local delivery! You can browse our full inventory and place your order 24/7 at gillespieflorists.com. We’ll do the heavy lifting (and the construction driving) for you.

We are so grateful for your patience and support during this corner makeover. We will keep you updated as things progress. We are excited for the improvements to our community, but most of all, we are excited to see you!

Stop in and say hi!

Navigating the Roundabout Construction!

Posted by Mon, Jul 28, 2025 @ 10:00 AM

Heads up, flower fans! Our intersection is getting a fantastic upgrade with a new roundabout installation scheduled to begin on or after August 1st and expected to be completed by November 15th. While this means some changes to your usual route, we want to assure you that Gillespie Florists will be OPEN FOR BUSINESS throughout the entire project!

We understand construction can be a bit tricky, so here's what you need to know:

  • We're Open & Accessible: Both of our parking lot entrances will remain accessible. There will be temporary, periodic closures to individual entrances, but never simultaneously, so you'll always have a way in!

  • Navigating the Closures:

    • No Access From the West or North: If you're coming from the west (via 10th Street traveling east from Ronald Reagan Pkwy) or from the north (via Raceway Road traveling south from 21st Street), the intersection will be closed.

    • Accessing Our Southwest Entrance: Please use northbound Raceway Road (traveling north from Rockville Road).

    • Accessing Our Northeast Entrance: Please use westbound 10th Street (traveling west from Country Club Road).

  • "Road Closed" Barricades: You'll see "Road Closed 1 Mile Ahead" barricades at the intersections of Country Club Road and 10th Street, and Raceway Road and Rockville Road. Please note: Traffic is permitted past these barricades to gain access to Gillespie Florists (they will say "open to local traffic").

  • During Construction: If one of our entrances is temporarily blocked, all traffic will be directed to utilize the alternate entrance.

We'll be using our social media, email, text messaging, plus local and in-store signage to keep you updated with the latest access information.
