Meet Our Prom King & Queen for 2017! #GFPROM2017

Posted by Sun, May 21, 2017 @ 11:00 AM

Della Gillespie Mendenhal; We started this contest in 2011 as a fun way to us to see the end result with our Prom flowers. We enjoy making them so much and love seeing students pick up their flowers but hardly ever get to see these guys and gals all dolled up wearing said flowers! I didn't even know if anyone would bother with entering the contest! Honestly, every years as I print the fliers for this, I wonder if we'll get any contestants this year. But year after year, students surprise me with lots of entries and tons of support from friends and family! So, I want to thank our contestants from this year and from years past, for your support in Gillespie Florists by choosing us for your flower provider and for pleasantly surprising me each passing year with your participation!

We had some serious competition this year! With more entrants than ever, it was exhilarating to see all the positive comments and "likes" from friends and family of contestants!

Prom goers only needed to post their picture on our Facebook Place Page or they could use #GFPROM2017 on Instagram or twitter wearing our flowers! We then asked our social media followers to "Like" their favorite picture or make a positive comment about it to determine the winner.

We tally all likes and comments from the original post from the contestant as well as the picture we post in the King & Queen album.

We had several prom goers enter but there can be only one winner!

And the Winner is...

Olivia Carnagua‎ & Aaron Raymond won with a total of 227 likes/comments!

Olivia and Aaron each get a $25.00 gift card to Gillespie Florists and Olivia will be crowned with a tiara and flowers!

Prom Corsages for a Princess: Part Two

Posted by Sat, May 09, 2015 @ 08:02 AM

kellybadgetag-01-3

Welcome back to Part Two of our Prom Corsage Fit for a Princess Series!  We started off Part One with the most famous Disney princess of them all: Cinderella and selected stunning corsages for Belle's beautiful ballgown and Mulan's simple yet striking one-shoulder long red dress. Which corsages will be worthy of the final fairy-tale inspired dresses? Let's find out together!

promprincess_Merida

4. Merida:

We ended Part One discussing Disney ladies with names beginning with the letter "M" and the color Red; let's move onto the courageous Merida from Brave. Merida's dress of choice is flowy and sleeveless; which works out great if you're going to go to an archery lesson before or after prom. A versatile dress needs corsage of similar versatility therefore Pandora was selected. Perhaps the corsage should have been more simple with a bit of refinement but that's not Merida's style. The vibrant orange spray roses, blue wire, mutiple ribbon colors and fun feathers fit Merida's attitude to the "T". Isn't that what we hope for in the finished prom dress ensemble? That it fits, not only physically but in personal style as well?

promprincess_Elsa

5. Elsa:

I know, I know, can we all just "Let it Go" about Elsa and the cast of Frozen? Hasn't she had enough face time?! Sorry, not sorry but this dress is fabulous and has a couple of corsage placement options. Be assured it's just the dress...well..I do like the song, it's catchy. And the way she wields ice to make a castle was pretty neat too. Therefore we have decided Elsa needed to be on this list.

The hi-lo dress is a vision in an icy turquoise with exquisite beading on the bodice. Forget putting anything on the wrist as it might interfere with this breezy chiffon; instead, add some extra fabulous to your strut with the "White Hot" corsage on your sparkling silver shoe! Another option would be an armband. Its swirling silver shape with sparkling leaves and barely pink kissed roses would accent the bodice and make a statemet; just like Elsa.

promprincess_Ariel

6. Ariel:

Speaking of statement, remember when Disney introduced their first princess under water? The Little Mermaid is known as the movie which started the Disney Renaissance in 1989 so not only did it stand out in terms of quality which parallelled the classics such Cinderella and Snow White but also made a splash using a red-headed teenage mermaid as it's main character. Also, we're talking about mermaids!

This Ariel-inspired dress is fancy, fun, and full of modern whimsy. The bodice is a sensational myriad of sequin delight trailing into the several layers of marine like chiffon. The orchids in our "Flirty" corsage pull the deep fuschia accents from the dress and we add white opalescent leaves, silver beads, and a stylish chunky rhinestone bracelet to complete the look.

Prom dresses and princesses, I could keep writing on this subject for days! However we will end here with these lovely ladies with their fairy-tale inspired dresses and fantastic corsages which complete their dreamy ensemble. Are you in the middle of finding the "glass slipper" of corsages for your prom dress? Is your heart wishing for a dream prom ensemble? Gillespie Florists can help make dreams a reality with artfully designed prom flowers to complement your style.  Check out our website for more ideas and stop by our shop to get started today!

My Top 5 Prom Flower Corsages 2014

Posted by Fri, May 30, 2014 @ 11:00 AM

Robyn SmithAs we come to a close on the 2014 prom season here at Gillespie Florists, my second prom season with the shop, I have lost track of how many times I have been asked what my favorite corsages are. The shop has several very creative floral designers that create our amazing corsages so it makes it very hard to pick just one favorite. I have spent a lot of time dealing with our prom items this year and I finally have it narrowed down to my top five favorite corsages for this season.

Pink Curls Prom flowers

Pink Curls

This corsage is great for someone looking for something different. Black glitter leaves, pink beads, pink wired swirl sprays, black and silver wire, topped with aspidistra leaf ribbon and hot pink sweetheart roses make this a very uniquely designed corsage. To make it even better we could put this on any one of our keepsake bracelets!

Dreaming Blue Prom corsage

Dreaming Blue

This mixture of creams and blues makes for a very elegant but fun corsage. The beautiful cream and blue lace ribbon on top of black leaves and beads, topped with cream colored sweetheart roses and then accented with blue delphinium and blue faux rhinestone daisies is perfect for a classy but fun look.

Fire Island Flex Wrap Prom flowers

Fire Island

Decided to go with a brighter colored dress and now you are worried about matching orange flowers to the color of your dress? Don’t you worry, we have you covered. This corsage is unique with the use of the orange flex wrap covered wires which gives a new texture and look on top of black leaves. Add a few stunning orange sweetheart roses and there you have it, a perfect match for your bright orange dress!

Purple Pixie Prom CorsagePurple Pixie

Another new style for the 2014 Prom season! These lavender sweetheart roses are so pretty nestled in the purple flash ribbon with a splash of white wax flower filler. Add some purple faux rhinestone daisies and the versatile aspidistra leaf ribbon and you have the perfect mixture to accent that beautiful purple dress for your prom night.

Glowing fluorescence prom flowers

Glimmer

Want your corsage to be noticed by all on the dance floor as you dance the night away? Glimmer would be the way to go! This knock out corsage comes on a custom designed Glassia florescence wristlet that is battery powered and ready to go with its very own ultraviolet lights. White sweetheart roses, bright pink and brilliant white sheer ribbons, silver beads and silver dot tulle sprayed with the Glassia florescence formula are designed onto the custom wristlet. Flip the switch, hit the dance floor and amaze everyone with your out of this world corsage! Afraid that the glow won’t last all night, don’t you worry because we send you home with your very own, compact spray bottle of the Glassia florescence formula that will fit perfectly into your purse or date’s pocket! Give your corsage a quick spray and glow your night away!

If you like the style of one of our corsages but the colors won’t match your dress, don’t you worry we have you covered, all you have to do is ask about our color options!

Want to fancy up any corsage you see on our website??? Check out of huge selection of keepsake bracelets that will leave you with something special to remember your night!

"And the Winner is...": A Prom Corsage Match up

Posted by Tue, Jan 28, 2014 @ 12:14 PM

describe the imageJanuary 2014 kicks off a new year of award ceremonies. Some of them I watch; others, I just google the winners the day after. Regardless of watching in real time or checking stats later, one area I find intrigueing about these ceremonies are the glamorous outfits. Yes, Sandra Bullock didn't win best actress for Gravity at the Golden Globes but did you see her gorgeous black dress with pink and blue accents? Stunning! Taylor Swift was full of glitz and glimmer at the Grammy's!  Oh such a vast display of fashion do's, don'ts, and "What the heck was that?!" to be seen on the Red Carpet. It reminds me of prom...and corsages.

Instead of designer jewelry and clutches, this year I decided to pick a few people from the Red Carpet and match a winning corsage to their look. It was difficult to choose a few; there are a plethera of amazing dresses AND corsages from Gillespie Florists with which to match them.  It's like playing digital barbie, lots of fun, so let's get started!

venetianOne of the most interesting dresses was the Rani Zakhem which "The Big Bang Theory" Kaley Cuoco was wearing. A corseted floral ball gown on millefueille tulle with watercolor floral patterns.

The Venetian corsage reflects a similar style with its peach roses, mini lotus pods with glitter, bead sprays, cream and gold ribbon, cream and pink accent flowers and a keepsake crystal beaded bracelet with rhinestones! Sure it has a bit of bling in it but it works with the dress as the pieces are small, flowing, and dainty.

twswiftNext up we have songstress Taylor Swift in a striking Carolina Herrera strapless gown with a black bust with bustling red gown.  The dress is simple yet elegant so I chose Glamazon to add a bit more attitude to the ensemble.

The beauty of this spray rose & rhinestone corsage that everything on it is interchangeable! Whether it is the color of the roses, ribbon, even the wristlet can be switched out or upgraded. A fantastic and versatile corsage!

girlsparkeBBC's "Orphan Black" Tatiana Maslany shimmered in an Old Hollywood styled Jenny Packham gown. The Bauble Bath corsage complements the style with posey callas, clear jewel accents, a butterfly, an adjustable bracelet and other jewel and silver accents!

describe the imageNow lets not forget about the guys! The ever so smooth and southern accent dripping Matthew Mccounaghey accepted his Golden Globe award in style with his Dolce & Gabbana and Cartier cufflinks. This guy has so much style I decided he needed a single rose in a silver boutinniere to complete his sophisticated look.

There seems to be definite themes this year with color block dresses, metallics, and bold colored gowns. In other words, there are many exciting options to work with!

What ever style you choose, we have a corsage to match it!

Click below to see a few of our corsage selections online and stop by our shop to create the perfect accent to your winning prom ensemble.
